Crafting Practical Wood Solutions
-About -
I was brought up to value the ability to fix things. While this was an economic necessity early on in life, it became one more driven by the self-pride associated with solving a problem. Iβve always liked to fix things. I recall telling my always-encouraging mom that I wanted to be a βFix-it man.β I eventually learned (the hard way?!) that I could even prevent some things from breaking through maintenance. But for the most part, my βfixingβ always meant it had to βbreakβ first.
I followed my fatherβs advice when I first bought a house: βBuy a new tool, even if it is very small, to add to your collection for each project. Over the years, you will have built yourself a nice set of tools.β That first tool purchase was a simple plumb bob to help me build a small fence - I still have it.
Iβve been fortunate enough to make some home improvements and fix enough things around the house along the way to βjustifyβ the need to buy many new tools. While my wife has liked the home improvements, she has been well aware of my tool buying strategy justifying the need for new tools!
At this point, I have cobbled together a respectable amount of tools & pretty much taken over the garage. Iβm constantly looking to develop my skills with each project in order to solve problems. I really enjoy making unique and creative items I think others might enjoy too.
Thanks
I owe a lot of thanks to the family I grew up with as we were taught the values of hard work, trying our best and solving problems. My 3 brothers and I have all found different paths in life and these values seemed to have worked well for all of us.
I also owe a lot of thanks to the family I created with my wife. My 3 children have always been supportive - even offering things for me to make and fix for them! Finally, I want to thank my wife for her patience with my garage takeover, my constant Amazon purchases for βone more thing,β and most of all her continuous support and encouragement in this world.
